This is Sea Day #3. Clocks went an hour
forward overnight. There are still three
time zones to enter before arriving in New Zealand.
The sky was mostly sunny this morning,
but a band of some gray and some white clouds around the horizon. It was a
strong wind of 25 km per hour and cool temperature of 18 C which warmed to 20
by noon. The waves were rolling with
about two meters difference between troughs and peaks which were closer than
yesterday. The depth to the bottom is
about 1,400 meters. At noon the nearest land was 140 km away. We needed our
windproof jackets for walking on Deck 5 for the first few laps. At 4.5 km
walked, we stopped for coffee with a packet of cocoa mix added in the
Windjammer.
Quick lunch
in Windjammer, the soft serve ice cream was strawberry or vanilla. We went to a
talk about healthy aging, then it was off to a Rock ‘n Roll dance (like single
Swing) lesson. We watched the lesson
since it was beginner steps and there were about 20 couples on the dance
floor. After Bob and Maureen invited us
to see their cabin assignment for this cruise, at the front of Deck 8 and could
accommodate six people, but just one small bathroom, the same size as their
first stateroom.
The rest of the afternoon was spent reading
and in the casino. Claire finished the fifth book of the trip. Before dinner we danced to the dance
instructor’s recorded ballroom music in the Colony Club with Bob and Maureen
and nine or ten other couples.
Dinner was with the same table as we have
sat this cruise. Appetizers were chilled
Caspian Soup and Watermelon & bitter green salad. Main course was Onion, Leek & Butternut
Squash Quiche or Chicken Piccata with mashed potatoes, cauliflower and
carrots. Desserts chosen were Strawberry
Napolean with puffy pastry layers and Mochaccino Cheesecake.
After dinner we noticed that the wind was
much stronger and there was a loud whistling at the outside doors. We ordered cappuccinos to take to the after
dinner show which featured comedian, Kelly Monteith.
